Tyreek Hill says he’s ‘opening the door’ to leave Dolphins

Tyreek Hill sounded like a player fed up with the Miami Dolphins after the team’s 32-20 loss to the New York Jets in Week 18.

“This is the first time I haven’t been in the playoffs,” Hill told reporters in the locker room, via Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald. “I just gotta do what’s best for me and my family. If that’s here or wherever the case may be, I’m gonna open that door for myself. I’m opening the door. I’m out, bro.

“It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, bro I got to do what’s best for my career. I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there.”

Hill, 30, dealt with a wrist problem for the entire season after suffering an injury in August and opting against surgery to correct the issue. While he was questionable five times, the receiver played in all 17 games and finished the year with 81 receptions for 959 yards and six touchdowns. Hill also missed the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career.

In the final game of the year, Hill caught only two passes for 20 yards and told reporters that he was pulled from the game by Dolphins coaches.

Prior to the 2024 season, Hill received a reworked contract from the Dolphins that has him set to stay with the franchise through 2026. He’s due to count $27.7 million against the team’s salary cap next year, but releasing the receiver would cause that number to balloon to an even higher amount of dead money.

If the Dolphins waited until later in the offseason to trade Hill, they could recoup nearly $15 million in cap space by making a deal after May.
