Tyneside's Mandata snaps up Eureka as part of growth plans for UK and Europe

Fast growing North East software firm Mandata has snapped up an Irish business as part of plans for growth in the UK and Europe.

Quorum Park based Mandata’s technology allows carrier and haulage businesses to manage workflows and data more effectively, with products including traffic planning and management, tracking, telematics, and invoicing. The firm, which has around 120 people across offices on Tyneside and around the UK, has around 2,000 customers which it supports with compliance, improving productivity, delivering efficiency savings and reducing carbon emissions.

The company was acquired by Tenzing, a London-based equity group specialising in tech companies, last October, providing an exit for previous investor LDC, the private equity arm of Lloyds Bank. Now Tenzing has announced that Mandata, which turned over £8.8m in most recent accounts for 2020/2021, has acquired Wexford based Eureka Information Systems Ltd (Eureka).

Founded 10 years ago by Eddie Doyle and Damien Power, Eureka is one of Ireland’s fastest-growing suppliers of software to the transport and logistics industry.

The company has over 200 customers who rely on Eureka’s integrated systems to run every aspect of their transport operations, saving their businesses time and money and increasing productivity.

Chris Rigg, CEO of Mandata, said: “The acquisition of Eureka is a step towards achieving our goal of becoming the go-to provider of best-of-breed transport management software in the UK and Europe. Built up over the past decade to be one of Ireland’s foremost providers of transport management systems, Eureka’s product offering supports Mandata’s mission to help road transport operators succeed in all market conditions.”

Guy Gillon, co-founder and managing partner of Tenzing, said, “Eureka is Mandata’s first Tenzing-backed acquisition and the first European acquisition as part of our investment journey with Mandata. It supports our joint ambition to expand Mandata’s footprint and establish itself as the leading provider of transport management solutions across the UK and Europe.”

Mr Doyle, co-founder of Eureka Information Systems, added: “Damien and I are delighted that Eureka Information Systems is now part of the Mandata Group, which will further enhance the services we provide to our existing customers. The company will continue to operate from Rosslare, and all customer contact points with the Eureka team will remain.”

As well as adding Eureka to the business, Mandata also acquired Return Loads in June 2020 and the Stirling Group in December 2021.
