Tyler Onyango reveals Everton summer training regime following Anthony Gordon lead

Tyler Onyango is following in the footsteps of Anthony Gordon by undergoing an intense training regime over Everton's summer break.

The midfielder missed large portions of the 2021/22 season through injury, with a hernia problem ruling him out of the latter stages of the campaign particularly. However, he did still make his Premier League debut last term, coming off the bench late in the defeat to Manchester City in November 2021.

He went on to make further appearances against Chelsea and Aston Villa for the first team, but spent the majority of his time on the pitch with the under-23s over the course of the season. The 19-year-old was one of a group of youngsters who regularly trained with the senior side at Finch Farm when fit, however, and will be looking to kick on further this time around.

To help him with that the midfielder has teamed up with former Everton man Lee Molyneux, who has previously worked with both Anthony Gordon and Jonjoe Kenny alongside their efforts with the club. The strength and conditioning coach posted a video to his Instagram detailing some of the work Onyango was going through, focusing on both his lower and upper body.

Molynuex also captioned his post saying: "[Onyango] Made his debut in the Premier League last season & Just 19 a few months back, standing at 6’4, he’s going to be an absolute monster out on the pitch over these next 18-24 months. Humble, hard working & mature.

"Just as I said about @anthonygordon 2 years back, this lad will go to the top coz [sic] I know he’s got the mentality and mindset. Just a matter of time & taking his opportunity when it arises. Can’t wait to see the journey and will do my best to help you that small % along the way."

Onyango will be looking to impress Frank Lampard as soon as possible as Everton will be set to make their return from a summer break at the beginning of July. As it stands the only pre-season fixtures the Blues have fully confirmed are their clashes against Arsenal and Minnesota United as part of their tour of the USA next month.

Farhad Moshiri revealed last week that there would also be a friendly at Goodison Park against Dynamo Kyiv to raise funds to support the people of Ukraine, with full details about that match still yet to be confirmed. The Blues will also announce further first-team summer fixtures in due course.

Last summer saw a number of youngsters involved in the club's pre-season matches with Charlie Whitaker flying over to the USA to take part in the club's tour and make his first step up to the senior side in the process, following some impressive appearances with the club's under-23s.
