Tyler Lockett: Third-year Seahawks WR Dee Eskridge ‘looks explosive’

The Seattle Seahawks boast one of the best receiving corps in the NFL, but their success has been very top heavy with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Now, when those two are rolling, this offense becomes hard to stop. But with either one shut down or missing time, depth becomes an issue.

Seattle looked to directly address this need when they selected Ohio State’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft. He is looking to fill this role, as former high round pick Dee Eskridge has struggled to stay healthy enough to make an impact.

However, early buzz from minicamp should be encouraging. Lockett has praised Eskridge’s explosiveness this early summer. From Mike Dugar at the Athletic:

“When Dee is running routes, he looks explosive… He’s one of the most explosive receivers out there, whether it’s the start or the finish. He’s coming back to the ball. He’s getting himself open. Even the other day we saw him, he ran a heck of a comeback.”

Smith-Njigba should be the favorite to win the No. 3 spot, but perhaps we shouldn’t count Eskridge out just yet. Regardless, fingers crossed Eskridge can breakout this year. Quality depth at the receiver position never hurt anyone, and the Seahawks are going to need all the firepower they can get when chasing San Francisco and Philadelphia.
