Tyler Adams' United States message as Leeds United midfielder prepares for World Cup

Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams has emphasised the importance of heading into the World Cup in winning form. The United States lost 2-0 against Japan in Dusseldorf on Friday and have an opportunity to make amends when they face Saudi Arabia on Tuesday in Spain.

Adams has revealed that USA boss Gregg Berhalter has intended to use the two games during the final international break before the World Cup to replicate the type of scenarios they will face at the finals.

However, the 23-year-old has called for more discipline and intensity to avoid a repeat of the Star and Stripes' sloppy performance against Japan.

"We need to take a step back, a little bit of a refresher. Look at the video, go over the things that you need to," Adams told the media via TJ Sports USA.

"I know Gregg will have a lot of things to show us and go over, he’s very detail orientated. But then it’s about training hard over the next couple of days and executing it.

"You can’t really take a break now. We probably have about three more days of training before the next game so we’ve got to lock in and stay focused because you don’t want to go into this last game on a bad note. You want to go in refreshed and revived and bring a lot of energy to that last game."

USA will be playing at their first World Cup finals since 2014 after they failed to qualify for the finals in 2018 for the first time in 32 years.

However, The Star and Stripes have a good recent record in the World Cup, having progressed to the knockout phase in four of the last six finals.
