Tyler Adams on the Tom Brady trait he shares with Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch

Tyler Adams believes that both he and Jesse Marsch were able to bring a ‘winning mentality’ to Red Bull Leipzig during their time at the club. The duo are set to reunite this week with a talks at an advanced stage to bring Adams to Leeds United.

Marsch has already worked alongside Adams twice before in his career, first at New York Red Bulls and then last season at Leipzig, all be it briefly after the 48-year-old was sacked in December. But they are now set to work together for a third time as Leeds close in on a deal that could be worth up to £20 million ahead of their pre-season tour of Australia.

Speaking to Grant Wahl back in August last year – with Marsch around a month-and-a-half into his tenure at Leipzig - Adams joked about how Europeans still follow the stereotype that Americans ‘don’t know football’. But the 23-year-old then moved quickly to disregard those claims, stating that American sportspeople are actually renowned for their ‘winning mentality’, referencing Tom Brady as someone sports fans cite around the world.

He said: “American to them [Europeans] is that we don’t really know football, to be honest with you. It’s hilarious, because you see the influence that Americans are having now around the world.

“I mean, Christian Pulisic won the Champions League. I think we’re slowly starting to gain that respect, and it’s not going to happen overnight. But it’s still: Americans don’t know football, you guys call it soccer, so what do you know?

“But one thing that Jesse brings here, and that I brought here, is that winning mentality that Americans have. Americans do everything to win. People here know Tom Brady because he’s a winner. So whenever you speak about winners, American names always pop up.”
