Ty Montgomery leaves Saints for 2-year deal with Patriots

Another New Orleans Saints free agent is on the move: wide receiver/running back Ty Montgomery has agreed to a two-year contract with the New England Patriots valued at up to $4 million, per USA Today’s Josina Anderson. Montgomery got snaps as a backup for the Saints in recent years at both receiver and running back, but some of his most impactful moments came in the kicking game covering returns on special teams.

The Saints probably weren’t going to re-sign Montgomery at this contract value after he played on the veteran’s minimum in 2021, but this is another absence they’ll have to account for. Depth in the backfield could be tested if Alvin Kamara receives an NFL suspension stemming from his Las Vegas arrest earlier this offseason. And it’s no secret that the Saints are running thin at receiver.
