Two women taken to hospital after suspected XL bully attack

Two women have been taken to hospital after being mauled by a dog suspected of being an XL bully.

Emergency services were called to an address in Baddeley Green, Stoke-on-Trent at around 11.40am on Thursday, Staffordshire Police said.

Officers said the animal was contained and will now be put down.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact the police.

The latest incident comes as the Government looks to ban American XL bully dogs in response to a series of attacks.

Rishi Sunak previously said the breed will be banned by the end of the year, adding: “These dogs are dangerous, I want to reassure the public that we will take all necessary steps to keep people safe.”

Earlier this month, a 24-year-old woman revealed her horror after being attacked by three dogs in south London.

Lakaydia Reynolds lost movement in her right arm and suffered serious injuries to her face when she was mauled in a park in Tulse Hill on June 6.

One of the dogs that attacked her was found to be an American pitbull terrier - a breed banned in the UK - and was later put down.

“I knew those dogs were going to kill me,” Ms Reynolds told the BBC’s Reliable Sauce podcast, describing her desperate attempt to free herself from their jaws on what she considers “the worst day of my entire life”.
