Two teenagers have died following a tragic accident at Queensland’s Wappa Falls.
The teens — a 17-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl — were visiting the popular waterfall spot in Yandina on the Sunshine Coast when the girl reportedly fell into the waterfall and failed to resurface.
According to a statement by Queensland Police, an acquaintance of the girl jumped into the water after her but also failed to resurface.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 2.50pm on Sunday where Queensland Fire Department and Police divers searched the falls for the missing teens.
The body of the girl was located at 3.30pm while the boy was located at 7.25pm. Both teenagers were declared unresponsive and deceased at the scene.
Wappa Falls remains closed while police conduct an investigation. The identities of the teenagers are yet to be released.
