Two teenagers arrested after being found with knives and drugs in Cardiff city centre

Two teenagers found with knives and drugs have been arrested in Cardiff, South Wales Police has said. The teenagers were found on St Mary Street and arrested following a police operation to tackle concerns about suspicious individuals gathering in the city centre.

South Wales Police has said that information was received at around 4pm on Saturday, April 23, about a group, who appeared to be involved in drug-related activity outside the Spar on St Mary Street. Attending officers were said to have "quickly encircled this group and detained them for a search."

A 17-year-old from Caerau was searched and found to be in possession of a Rambo-style knife and a Stanley blade. The knives were seized and he was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife in a public place. A 13-year-old from Grangetown was searched and found to be in possession of bags of white powder and other drug paraphernalia.

These were seized for analysis and he was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A and Class B drugs. South Wales Police said: "Following the arrests, the mobile police station was deployed to St Mary Street and the PCSO team maintained a presence for community reassurance.

"We are aware of concerns about drug related activity and groups of individuals congregating within the city centre, particularly on St Mary Street. Such behaviour can be intimidating for those visiting or working in the area. Robustly tackling these issues remains a daily priority for the City Centre Policing Team in order to keep the city centre a safe and welcoming environment."
