Two set to appear in court after largescale police presence in Lanarkshire town

A man and a woman are due to appear in court after a disturbance in East Kilbride last night.

We told you earlier today how a largescale police presence was seen in The Murray area of the town on Tuesday.

Pictures circulating social media showed a woman being apprehended by officers and led into a marked vehicle.

Lanarkshire Live can now confirm that a 39-year-old man and 36-year-old woman were arrested.

A Police Scotland source told us: “We were called around 8.30pm on Tuesday to a report of a disturbance in the Somerville Terrace area of East Kilbride.

“Officers attended and a 39-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident and is due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

“A 40–year-old woman was also arrested and charged and is due to appear in court at a later date.”

One picture on social media showed seven police cars and one police van lined up along the street, with one Lanarkshire Live source telling us it was “a nice area”.
