Two schoolboys, 12, sent home for trying to wear their PE kits amid 35C heatwave

Furious parents say their children were sent home for trying to wear their PE kits in class to combat the blowtorch 35C temperatures.

Friends Ryley Dingle and Blake Ben-Ayed were turned away at the school gates on Monday as Blythe Bridge High School rejected their idea to wear the sports uniform embellished with the school badge instead.

Their angry mums have hit out at the North Staffordshire school after the 12-year-olds were told to leave, StokeOnTrentLive reports.

The school have now done a U-turn on the rule and say kids will be allowed to wear the PE kit today.

Ryley's mum Natasha Moss and Blake's mum Natalie Ford have complained and say they refused to send the boys back in wearing the correct sweltering clothes.

But Blythe Bridge High School have now changed their minds (STOKE SENTINEL)

Natasha said: "I was speaking to a few of the other mums at the weekend who said their child's school was allowing them to go in with their PE kits on because of the weather.

"I checked the Blythe Bridge page on Facebook and I couldn't see anything but I decided to send him in with his school PE kit on – the proper PE kit with the school badge on.

"But when he got to the school gate, a teacher told him he wasn't allowed in because he was wearing shorts. To make matters worse the male teacher that sent him home was wearing shorts and a T-shirt.

"The school rang me to say they'd sent Ryley home and told me he could go back in once he'd changed into his shirt and trousers but that he didn't need to wear a tie or a blazer.

"But I told them he wouldn't be going back in, I refuse to send him into school with thick black trousers on when it's nearly 40C outside."

The 38-year-old added: "It's absolutely ridiculous that they were sent home from school for wearing a PE kit, especially when there's only two days left before they break up for the summer holidays."

"When he rang me to tell me that they wouldn't let him, I rang the school receptionist who told me it was the guidelines that the children had to wear trousers."

Both Natasha and Natalie say they later received phone calls from the school apologising for what happened.

Blythe Bridge High School did not respond when contacted by the media.

The headteacher has since sent an email to parents saying children will be allowed to wear their PE kits during the hot weather.

The email said: "If students wish to come to school in their PE kit on Tuesday (July 19) then they may do so.

"Our school will remain open as usual, however, if parents/carers wish their children to remain at home during the extreme weather warning due to individual risk assessment/care plans or due to concerns you have related to health issues please contact the absence line. We will authorise your child's absence."

It comes as LincolnshireLive reports students at Lincoln Castle Academy were also sent home for wearing PE kit - but they were allowed to undo their top button and leave blazers and ties at home
