Two rushed to hospital after M80 crash as emergency services scramble to scene

Two people have been rushed to hospital after a serious crash on the M80.

The male driver and female passenger of a car were taken by ambulance to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth Hospital after the horror incident at around 1.30pm on Saturday, Police Scotland confirm.

Fire and rescue teams were scrambled to the scene to help free the pair from the vehicle.

The conditions of the man and woman are not yet known.

Photos from the scene show several emergency vehicles and a Transport Scotland incident support van near to a white car, reports the Daily Record.

The crash has closed off the motorway between junctions 6a and 7 at Haggs, between Falkirk and Cumbernauld, while police carry out enquiries into its cause.

Both the northbound and southbound carriageways remain closed as of 5pm, according to road network monitor Traffic Scotland.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 1.30 pm on Saturday, 5 February, 2022, police were called to a single vehicle road crash northbound on the M80, between J6a and J7, Haggs.

"The male driver of the car and his female passenger have been taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. We have no details on injuries at this time.

"The road remains closed in both directions to allow officers to carry out enquiries."
