Two riders had a lucky escape after their motorbikes collided on the A85 between Crieff and Comrie.
Two police cars, an ambulance and Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance attended the scene of the accident at Monzievaird.
The air ambulance arrived within 20 minutes of the other emergency services and landed in a field opposite Monzievaird Hall.
However, its airlift services were not needed.
The crash happened outside the home of Jane Morrison at around 1pm on Sunday, July 10.
She explained: “Whilst I didn’t see the actual accident, from speaking to the uninjured biker I understand that the bike which crashed did so after clipping the back wheel of the bike in front, so they were obviously far too close to each other.
“It was amazing that the front bike managed to stay upright, a lucky escape for him.
“The police were close behind them and I believe that they were about to pull them over – I don’t know exactly why – but it did get them medical assistance very quickly.
“The injured biker had shoulder and knee injuries, but it was not serious enough to use the air ambulance and he was taken to hospital in the land ambulance.”
Jane, a qualified motorcycle instructor, said she was not surprised that the accident had occurred as the summer months see countless motorbikes roaring through the rural roads of Strathearn.
She added: “Bikers come round the bend and see a short straight stretch and accelerate like mad.
“We see so many near-misses here, it is quite scary, and there have been fatalities, too, along this stretch of road.
“Bikers at this time of year are a constant worry.
“While many are sensible, there are too many idiots who go out with their mates and they literally race along these roads not only breaking the speed limit but also making dangerous overtaking manoeuvres and screaming their engines.
“Most bike routes around Scotland are advertised with expected timings to complete the route, and many bikers see that as a challenge and a time to beat.
“I am not anti-bikers. In fact when I was younger I was a qualified motorcycle instructor so I understand the pleasure of riding a bike – but do it safely for all road users.
“Another incredibly dangerous thing they do, which is a pet hate of mine, is to take the wrong line on the road when they go round bends.
“They forget to compensate for the bike leaning over and their heads are over the white line giving the drivers coming the other way a heck of a fright.
“Those guys spoil it for everyone and are the ones who give bikers a bad name.
“I think most of us who live along these roads will have had at least one fright every summer.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1pm on Sunday, July 10, police attended the A85 near Crieff, following a crash involving two motorbikes.
“One person was taken to hospital for treatment and recovery was arranged.”
