Two retail units in Glasgow City Centre could be set for major transformation

JD Sports could be set to take over two units on Buchanan Street

TWO retail units in Glasgow’s city centre could be set to become one larger shop.

JD Sports has submitted plans to take over the units once inhabited by Gap and Paperchase on Buchanan Street.

The stationary shop moved from its flagship store last year after the company said it was on the “brink of collapse” after lockdown.

They moved to a smaller unit across from the Apple Store whilst Gap made the decision to close all of its shops across the UK and Ireland and move to online only.

Plans have since been submitted to Glasgow City Council to amalgamate the two units and create a two-floor shop which will include a DJ booth.

Should the plans be approved, the change will be one of several being proposed to Glasgow’s City Centre following a consultation about the re-design of George Square and the announcement of plans to demolish Buchanan Street Galleries.
