Two renowned Edinburgh bars named in list of best gastropubs across the UK

Two Edinburgh bars have been named in a list of the best gastropubs in the United Kingdom.

The Scran and Scallie and The Doric which are both located in the capital city were named in the Top 50 bars with extraordinary ‘pub grub’ by the Global Travel Site, Big 7 travel.

Restaurants all over the United Kingdom were based on a mixture of attributes such as quality of ingredients, value for money, consistency and many other characteristics with the two restaurants making the cut.

The main focus of the Michelin Guide restaurant is ‘super comforting food’ alongside pairing it with craft beer and a large selection of other great drinks which you could spend hours of your time in.

The Doric was also named in the list and is situated on Market Street in the city centre behind Waverley Station. The gastropub claims to be the oldest one of its kind in the UK and came 35th position serving delicious, local dishes such as haggis with a silky Glenkinchie Whisky Jus.

"It is an honour to be nominated as one of the top Gastro Pubs in the UK.

"We take great pride in what we do at the Doric and to see it recognised, especially in such difficult times in the hospitality industry means a great deal to us"

Commenting on the global recognition from Big 7 Travel, Chef Tom Kitchin said;

“We’re really proud of what we have achieved at The Scran & Scallie. We’ve worked hard to create a gastropub that really brings people together in a shared love of food and drink.

“To be recognised as the leading Scottish gastropub, alongside the best gastropubs in the UK, is testament to our entire team as well as our trusted suppliers and our guests, who continue to support us.

"We never stop pushing forward, constantly improving our offering, and awards and recognition like this help us to keep evolving to deliver an exceptional experience for our guests.”
