A man is dead, two people remain in a critical condition and a 13-year-old boy is in hospital following a horror 24 hours on NSW roads.
A truck and an SUV collided north of Wollongong, ejecting two male passengers from the truck about 1.50pm on Friday.
One of the passengers, a 40-year-old man, was treated at the scene on Lawrence Hargrave Drive at Thirroul before being airlifted to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.
The other passenger, a 43-year-old man, died at the scene.
The truck driver, a 39-year-old man, was airlifted to Westmead Hospital where he underwent surgery.
The driver of the BMW SUV, a 40-year-old woman, had to be freed from her vehicle by firefighters. She was flown to St George Hospital in a critical condition.
The crash and rescue effort caused delays around the surrounding road network on Friday afternoon.
Police officers from the crash investigation unit are investigating. A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Hours after the two vehicles collided, a 13-year-old boy was hit by a car while riding his bike in Sydney's inner west.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Reuss and Excelsior streets in Leichhardt about 8.30pm on Friday.
The vehicle reportedly continued along Reuss Street, failing to stop and assist, police said.
The teenager suffered serious injuries and was treated by paramedics before being taken to Sydney Children's Hospital in a stable condition.
A 22-year-old man was arrested at Newtown Police Station on Saturday and charged with failing to stop after a crash causing grievous bodily harm, and not providing information to an injured person.
He was granted bail to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on March 27.
