Two quick-thinking police officers help save sleeping family from devastating house fire

Two quick-thinking police officers helped save a family from a 'life-threatening' fire that ripped through their home in Stockport. The drama unfolded when the two PCs who were on patrol in Brinnington spotted smoke coming from a house earlier this morning (Tuesday).

They leapt into action and helped safely evacuate the family - several of whom were sleeping - from the property. Firefighters arrived at the scene just before 11am and quickly set about extinguishing the blaze.

Several neighbouring properties were also evacuated as the blaze spread through the upper ground floor of the house "extremely quickly."

The officers have now been credited with saving the lives of the family given how quickly the fire spread. GMP Stockport said in a post on their Facebook page: "Whilst on mobile patrol today in Brinnington, PC Rhodes and PC Clappison sighted smoke coming from a residential property.

"Due to their quick thinking the family (several of whom were sleeping) were evacuated and subsequent adjoining properties, saving them from potentially what would have been a life-threatening incident due to the fire spreading extremely quickly through the upper ground of the property.

"Greater Manchester Fire Service attended and the fire was extinguished with the house being condemned." A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 11am this morning, Tuesday 29 March, firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a property on Brindale Road, Stockport.

“Crews from Marple, Stockport and Whitehill fire stations arrived quickly and used breathing apparatus, hose reels and specialist ventilation equipment to extinguish the fire and make the scene safe. GMFRS were in attendance for two hours.”
