Police have banned two "prolific shoplifters" from entering an entire street in Swansea. A 31-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man have been handed Community Protection Warnings for their persistent shoplifting and anti-social behaviour.
The warning is intended to deal with unreasonable, ongoing problems or nuisances which negatively affect a community’s quality of life, by targeting those responsible. They can direct that the individual responsible stops causing the problem and can require the person responsible to take reasonable steps to ensure it does not occur again, according to legislation.
The ban means they can no longer enter Woodfield Street in Morriston for the next six months. It comes after South Wales Police received a report of a "verbally aggressive shoplifter" at a pharmacy in the area. Get Swansea stories straight to your inbox with our newsletter.
A post on a South Wales Police Twitter page read: "PCSO Hopkins issued two Community Protection Warnings to two prolific shoplifters, that prohibits them from entering Woodfield Street for a prolonged period of time."
And in a statement, South Wales Police neighbourhood inspector Andy Price added: “Officers were called just before 3pm on Tuesday, March 7, with a report of a verbally aggressive shoplifter in a pharmacy on Woodfield Street, Morriston. A 31-year-old woman from Swansea and a 34-year-old man from Morriston have been handed Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) for their persistent shoplifting and anti-social behaviour.
"CPWs are a great tool to protect the community, and businesses, from continuing anti-social behaviour as demonstrated by this pair. The Community Protection Warnings are in place for six months.”
