Two players return to Manchester United training ground early

Dean Henderson has returned to Manchester United's training complex early to continue his rehabilitation from injury.

Henderson, 26, has not played since January due to a thigh strain and had surgery last month. Henderson could miss a chunk of pre-season but is expected to be fit for the start of the new season.

The goalkeeper reported at Carrington for the first time since May 2022 as he was reluctant to train under new manager Erik ten Hag last June while negotiations to join Nottingham Forest on loan were at an advanced stage.

Forest have informed Henderson of their wish to sign him in a possible £30million deal and the England international is convinced he will make a permanent move to the City Ground.

Henderson has not met Ten Hag in person and there dialogue was limited during his season on loan at Forest.

Lisandro Martinez also confirmed he is back at Carrington as he nears a recovery from a metatarsal fracture he sustained in the Europa League quarter-final draw with Sevilla in April.

The first batch of players are due to start pre-season training next week ahead of United's first friendly against Leeds United in Oslo on July 12.

Ten Hag could be without two prominent 'keepers for United's first week of training as David de Gea's contract expires on Friday.

De Gea ambiguously tweeted a yawning emoji on Wednesday as it looks increasingly likely he will leave United after 12 years.

The MEN revealed in May there are doubts over De Gea's No.1 role at United next season and senior figures at the club want to move on from the Spaniard.

United have started exploring options to sign a new first-choice 'keeper.
