Two people with 'severe hypothermia' rescued from water at Salford Quays

Two people were rushed to hospital with severe hypothermia after crews pulled them from the water at Salford Quays.

Firefighters were scrambled to Salford Quays shortly before midnight on Friday (May 12) to reports of two adults in the water. Witnesses reported a large emergency services presence.

The people were taken to hospital, according to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS). Their exact condition is unknown.

A GMFRS spokesperson said: "Just before midnight last night firefighters rescued two adults suffering with severe hypothermia from the water at Salford Quays.

"Two fire engines from Salford, one fire service boat from Eccles, and the Technical Response Unit from Ashton worked alongside Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service to safely resolve this situation. Two casualties were taken to hospital."

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for more information.
