Emergency services rushed to a three vehicle crash on a busy Lanarkshire road.
Two people were taken to hospital following the incident on the A71 on the outskirts of Newmains on Wednesday evening.
The road, at the Cooper Bros garage, was closed for several hours while police and fire crews carried out their duties.
A Police Scotland source told us: “Officers were called to a three-vehicle road traffic crash which happened on the A71 near Newmains at around 8.35pm on Wednesday (February 22).
“Emergency services attended and two people were taken to hospital by ambulance.
“The road was closed and re-opened at around 2.25am this morning (February 23).
“Enquiries remain ongoing into the crash.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman confirmed their officers had been called to assist with the incident, in which "one car was well alight".
She added: “We mobilised three appliances and a heavy rescue unit to the scene.
“Five casualties were handed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
“Crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
