Two people taken to hospital after car crashes into trees

Two people have been hospitalised after a car ploughed into trees in North Ayrshire. Emergency services were alerted to the smash having taken place shortly after 2pm today on Maree Place, Castlepark, Irvine.

Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service raced to the scene and a man and a woman were taken to Crosshouse Hospital to receive treatment. The extent of their injuries, as well as their current condition, is unclear.

Photos taken at the crash site, which were shared on social media, show the aftermath of the dramatic incident, with a black motor submerged in large bushes and shrubbery, which appear to have fallen on top of it.

The vehicle's boot has been flung up, presumably due to the impact of the collision. A heavy police presence is visible, with tens of officers standing guard. Several fire engines and hero crew are also in attendance, as well an air ambulance which is parked close to residents' homes.

Worried onlookers, including mothers with prams and young children, can also be seen gathered at the bus stop a few yards away. Cops have confirmed that a 29-year-old man has been arrested in relation with road traffic offences.

"Officers attended and a man and woman were taken by Ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital. A 29 year-old man has been arrested in connection with road traffic offences."
