A police investigation is under way after a deadly blaze ripped through a terraced home in Walthamstow overnight.
Firefighters rushed to the two-storey, end-of-terraced home on Forest Road just before 10.30pm on Sunday. The fire was brought under control by 12.22am.
Two people inside the property were pronounced dead at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
The property and half the roof were destroyed.
London Fire Brigade received nine calls about the fire.
Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Walthamstow, Woodford, Leyton and Tottenham fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the brigade and Metropolitan Police.
The Met said: “An investigation is ongoing after a fatal fire in Walthamstow.
“Police were called at 22.24hrs on Sunday, 21 April to a report of a fire at a house on Forest Road.
“Officers attended alongside colleagues from the London Fire Brigade.
“Sadly, two people were found deceased inside the property. Work is underway to confirm their identities.
“The cause of the fire remains under investigation.”
