Two people have been injured following a collision on one of Scotland's main roads on Monday morning.
Emergency services were called to the A9 at Crossgates, south of the Broxden Roundabout in Perth, shortly after 7.45am on Monday December 12. Three fire appliances, ambulance crews and a heavy rescue unit were among the assets called to the scene, while police vehicles closed the road south of the crash site.
Traffic was redirected via the village of Tibbermore for approximately two hours while emergency workers worked at the scene. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed there are two casualties.
Information on the severity of their injuries and their condition was not available at the time of publication. One lane of the northbound carriageway has since reopened to traffic.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called to attend a road traffic collision on the A9 at the request of the Scottish Ambulance service at 7:48 a.m. there were two vehicles involved.
“We sent three appliances and one heavy rescue unit to the scene. the stop message came in at 9:02 a.m. and we left the scene at 9:30 p.m. am. There are two casualties but no further information is available at this time.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson: "Around 7.45am on Monday 12 December, 2022, police received a report of a two-vehicle road crash on the A9, approximately half a mile from Broxden Roundabout. Emergency services are in attendance and the road is currently closed."
The crash caused tailbacks in excess of 40 minutes, which have since halved. However, motorists are being advised to continue to expect traffic.
Road network monitors Traffic Scotland said in an update on Twitter: “#A9 Crossgates-Broxden Roundabout:The Northbound carriageway Lane 2 (of 2) is now OPEN after an earlier collision.Traffic is still heavy in the area; Current delay approx.19 minutes.”
Drivers are being advised to take care on Scotland's roads following record low temperatures overnight. A tweet from trunk road managers Amey advised that some roads in the north east were as cold as -11C on the surface.
