Police investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two people at a home in Perth's southern suburbs say they do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public.

Emergency services were called to the residence on Sunningdale Circle, Cooloongup, near Rockingham, around 7:20pm last night.

Police said when officers arrived at the home, they found a 70-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman dead.

"At this stage there is not believed to be any third-party involvement, or danger to the community," WA Police said in a statement.

"A large police presence including detectives and forensic officers will remain at the scene.

"WA Police will continue to provide support and assistance to the family, friends and first responders affected by this tragic incident."

WA Police homicide squad detectives were seen entering the property on Monday morning.

Bags of evidence were carried from the side gate of the house to vans parked outside.

The quiet residential street is close to Rockingham General Hospital and about 45 kilometres south of Perth’s CBD.

'Like a brother to me'

Tony Scottney-Turbill lives down the road and was a close friend of the pair for 15 years.

"I'm very surprised, I never thought anything like that would happen," he said.

"They were church goers … they always seemed to get on well together."

Mr Scottney-Turbill last saw the 70-year-old man on Friday, when he dropped him home from the local shopping centre.

"[He] has gone downhill in the last few months, lost a lot of weight and hasn't been himself like he used to be," he said.

"They both used to do a lot of walking, and I never saw him walking with her in the last few months.

"He was almost like a brother to me … he would do anything for anybody."
