Two individuals lost their lives after falling into the Atlantic Ocean on Spain's northern coast, as reported by emergency services in the region of Asturias. The unfortunate events occurred amidst warnings of severe weather conditions, including strong winds and heavy rain, affecting various parts of the European country.
According to emergency services, the bodies of a man and a woman were recovered in two separate incidents that took place approximately 10 kilometers apart along the coast west of Gijon. The man was found lifeless in the sea after authorities were alerted to a person falling into the water. The woman, on the other hand, was thrown against the rocks by the waves after falling into the sea.
Spain's national weather service issued alerts for high winds in multiple areas of the peninsula, particularly along the Asturias coast, where waves as high as seven meters were predicted. Fortunately, the Atlantic coastal region has been spared from the drought conditions that have been affecting other parts of the country.
The heavy rain resulting from the weather conditions led to the cancellation of Easter Week processions in some cities that were scheduled for Thursday.
