Two pensioners have been left in a 'serious' condition after a horror road crash on the A96 this afternoon.
Officers were alerted at around 2.15pm on Thursday, January 12, following a crash involving a lorry and four cars on the A96 Inverurie to Huntly road, in Colpy. Two air ambulances, road ambulances and fire crews were also at the scene.
A 74-year-old man and a 73-year-old woman from one of the cars were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where they are being treated for their injuries. Hospital staff describe their condition as serious.
Police Scotland say the road remains closed at this time to allow a full investigation into the cause to take place.
Sergeant Sarah Ritchie from the Road Policing Unit at Inverurie appealed for anyone with information to contact police.
She said: “We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash take place to contact us. I am also keen to obtain any dash-cam footage from drivers in the area at the time.
“Information should be passed to 101 with reference number 1686 of January 12.”
