Tragic events unfolded on Monday near the West Bank city of Nablus, resulting in the deaths of two Palestinians. According to reports from both Israeli and Palestinian officials, the incident occurred south of Nablus, in the vicinity of the settlement of Gitit.
The Palestinian official news agency WAFA, quoting a local official, stated that the two individuals were allegedly killed by Israeli settlers in the area of Khirbet at-Tawil. The victims, identified as Abdul Rahman Maher Bani Fadel, 30, and Muhammad Ashraf Bani Jame, 21, were reportedly farmers tending to their farmland when the attack took place.
On the other hand, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) provided a different account of the events. The IDF reported that they received a distress call regarding a Palestinian suspect attacking a Jewish shepherd in the Gitit region of the West Bank's Jordan Valley. Subsequently, a violent confrontation erupted between Palestinians and Israeli citizens, leading to the tragic outcome.
Upon arriving at the scene, IDF forces intervened to de-escalate the situation. During the course of the confrontation, the two Palestinians lost their lives. The IDF emphasized that a preliminary investigation suggests their forces were not responsible for the fatal shootings.
Both the IDF and Israeli police have launched investigations into the incident to ascertain the sequence of events and determine accountability.
