Two Nottingham restaurants named among best in the UK

The stars of Nottingham's culinary scene have been named the best in the UK. The National Restaurant Awards, listing the creme de la creme, across the nation, have honoured Restaurant Sat Bains and Alchemilla.

Alchemilla, in Derby Road, ranks in 22nd place in the top 100. The restaurant, headed up by Alex Bond, issued a 'use us or lose us plea' back in April, proving no matter what the status, no restaurant is immune from the current economic crisis.

Major changes were made, axing the seven and ten-course tasting menus to serve five courses, after being forced to cut the workforce. The restaurant was also voted the 13th best in the UK by restaurant guide Square Meal in January.

Of the latest honour, Alex Bond said: "Absolutely over the moon to be recognised so highly amongst Britain’s best restaurants. To be considered by so many of our peers this highly is truly humbling. Thank you so much to everyone involved I couldn’t do it without you all. These little wins make this shifty year a little bit better."

Two Michelin starred Restaurant Sat Bains, in Lenton Lane, came 65th. Sat Bains posted on Instagram: "A list for shopping, a list for aspirations, a list for training, a list for chores. And we especially all love a list for best restaurants Humbled to even be on that list after all these years."

He also paid tribute to the restaurant's alumni, chefs who have passed through the RSB kitchen early on in their career and are now gaining their own awards. Gareth Ward, whose restaurant Ynyshir in Wales tops the list, used to work at the Nottingham restaurant and attributes it for changing his perception about food.
