West Australian Premier Mark McGowan is set to reshuffle his cabinet's responsibilities after confirming two women will join the ministry.

Sabine Winton and first-term MP Jackie Jarvis were confirmed as the new additions at a Labor caucus meeting on Tuesday.

It comes after Mr McGowan asked Water Minister Dave Kelly to make way for new blood, joining Alannah MacTiernan in departing.

Ms MacTiernan, a well-regarded veteran of the state and federal parliaments, will retire in coming weeks.

The allocation of her regional development, agriculture and hydrogen industry portfolios will be announced by the premier on Wednesday.

Mr Kelly's water, forestry and youth responsibilities are also up for grabs and Sue Ellery could reportedly hand over education before retiring in 2025.

The division of portfolios will rest entirely with Mr McGowan, whose personal authority within the party is at an all-time high after Labor claimed a whopping 53 of 59 lower house seats in the 2021 election.

Managing the ambition of his MPs is likely to remain a challenge for the factionally unaligned premier.

Five new parliamentary secretaries will also be sworn in at a ceremony on Wednesday in Jodie Hanns, Jags Krishnan, Meredith Hammat, Pierre Yang and Hannah Beazley.

Ms Jarvis, a winemaker, joined the upper house in last year's landslide while Wanneroo MP and former school teacher Ms Winton was elected in 2017.

Mr Kelly, a former union heavyweight, last week said he had been asked by the premier to step down to allow more women into cabinet.

The 60-year-old was dumped from fisheries in 2019 after having proposed a state intervention in the crayfish market.
