Two MPs kicked out of Commons after Boris Johnson PMQ protest

Two MPs have been thrown out of the House of Commons after launching a protest at the start of Prime Minister’s Questions. Alba Party pair Kenny MacAskill (East Lothian) and Neale Hanvey (Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath) were ordered to leave the chamber by Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle in furious scenes at the start of the session.

Mr MacAskill could be heard trying to raise a point of order and appeared to say “we need a referendum in the Prime Minister” before he was drowned out by other MPs. Mr MacAskill refused to sit down and continued to speak, prompting Sir Lindsay to act.

Mr Hanvey then rose to his feet and could not be heard over the heckling from Tory MPs, before he was subsequently told to leave the chamber. And angry Speaker Lindsay Hoyle told Alba MPs Kenny MacAskill and Neale Hanvey to leave, telling them to 'shut up'.

Boris Johnson quit last week as Conservative Party leader and this is his penultimate PMQs. He remains as PM as a leadership contest will continue over the summer before the new PM is named in September.
