Two road users were caught going twice the maximum speed limit by gardaí during the Bank Holiday weekend.
Over the February Bank Holiday, a Garda operation was put in place between 7am Friday, February 3 and 7am Tuesday, February 7, where Go-Safe speed vans clocked the speed of 93, 626 vehicles.
One motorist on the N6, Baile An Phoill, in Galway was caught going 113km/h in a 50km/h zone, while another motorist on the R178, Redbog, Carrickmacross, Louth was clocked at going 160km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

A motorist in Dublin was found going 100km/h in a 60km/h zone, while a motorist in Offaly was found speeding at 156km/h in a 100km/h zone.
As part of the operation, An Garda Síochána carried out 1,248 checkpoints, which led to 196 persons arrested for Driving under the Influence (123 Alcohol/ 73 Drugs).
In addition, Fixed Charge Offences were give to other road users for: mobile phones (26), learner unaccompanied drivers (123) and seatbelts (69).
Gardaí also informed that 460 vehicles were detained for offences which include: unaccompanied learner driver, no driving licence, no insurance or no tax.
There was one fatality on the road, over St Brigid's Bank Holiday Weekend.
Gardaí are continuing to appeal for all road users, no matter what mode of transport they are using, to continue to stay safe on the road.
