Two more children mauled by dog days after death of Bella-Rae Birch

An eight-year-old boy and six-year-old girl were taken to hospital after a dog attack today.

The emergency services were called out to the Brook Vale area in Cannock, Staffordshire at around 12.40pm (Saturday) following reports of a dog attack. The boy suffered severe facial injuries and the girl suffered an injury to her arm, reports Stoke on Trent Live.

A woman also received an arm injury, but did not go to hospital. It has not yet been established at this stage whether the three people are related.

The attack comes days after a 17-month-old girl was mauled to death by a American Bully XL in Blackbrook, St Helens. Bella-Rae Birch was attacked by the dog, which is not a prohibited breed under the Dangerous Dogs Act, at her family home on Monday and later died in hospital from her injuries.

A statement from her family said "We would ask that we are now allowed some space and time to try and come to terms with the tragic loss of our much-loved Bella-Rae. She will be sadly missed but never forgotten."

The full circumstances around today's dog attack have not yet been established, and details on the breed of dog have not yet been released. A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “Police were called at 12.40pm this afternoon to reports that a woman, a boy and a girl had received injuries after being bitten by a dog on Brook Vale.”

Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is being urged to contact police. They can either send a message via Staffordshire Police’s Facebook page or call 101, quoting incident number 360 of March 26.
