Two men swung knives and jabbed at each other during a terrifying crime in a home. It kicked off in the multi-occupancy address of defendant David Carroll, in Lindley Street, Mansfield.
Carroll was cross and annoyed at the presence of co-accused Jack Edwards at the address due to some previous background, Nottingham Crown Court was told on Thursday (November 17). Edwards was on the receiving end to begin with - but grew more aggressive when they both ran upstairs in the property.
Eventually it was Carroll who retreated, while Edwards decided to stab a door 20 times. Both men were jailed for ten months each after pleading guilty to affray. Edwards was given a nine-month jail sentence consecutively for possessing a knife which he had on his arrest nearby.

Lucy Jones, prosecuting, said the pair pleaded guilty at the first opportunity over the incident on October 12 this year. The first tranche of the crime was in the lounge, where another resident was sat on a wooden seat.

Edwards was in the corner of the room at this stage, then Carroll arrived, and "the Crown say he is the instigator of the first confrontation," explained Miss Jones. He entered the kitchen and returned with a knife.
The second part of the crime happened upstairs. Another resident ran and barricaded herself in her room. Edwards had a knife in his hand at this point and was bleeding from a self-inflicted wound.
Carroll, 40, of Lindley Street, has 31 convictions after 13 court appearances. He previously appeared before a court for possessing a blade and for battery.
Matt Hayes, representing him, said Carroll was making efforts in his own life and engaging with Change Grow Live, a national health and social care charity. Edwards, 23, has previous convictions for two robberies, possessing a bladed article and battery.
Luc Chignell, mitigating for Edwards, of White House Road, Bircotes, said the incident was isolated and involved both men focusing plainly on each other.
