Two men rushed to hospital after 'serious' crash on A78 as cops launch probe

Two men have been rushed to hospital following a 'serious' crash on the A78. The alarm was raised shortly before 11.30pm on Saturday, October 14 when officers were alerted to a smash on the busy road near Inverkip.

Emergency services, including Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service, raced to the scene of the collision, which involved a Toyota Yaris and VW Golf.

The 59-year-old male driver of the Toyota Yaris and the 22-year-old male driver of the VW Golf were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow to receive treatment.

The extent of their injuries is not yet known, nor is their current condition in hospital. The road was closed overnight in both directions between Inverkip and Wemyss Bay while cops launched a probe into the incident.

It reopened around 9am. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.25 pm on Saturday, October 15, police were called to a serious road crash involving a Toyota Yaris and VW Golf on the A78 near Inverkip.

“Both the 59-year-old male driver of the Toyota Yaris and the 22-year-old male driver of the VW Golf were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

“Enquiries into the crash are ongoing. The road is now open.”
