Two men 'known to gardaí' held over assault of woman in botched robbery at house in Kildare

Two males who are known to gardai continue to be quizzed after they were arrested following the assault of a woman during an aggravated burglary five days ago.

The woman was assaulted in her home in the Clane area of Kildare on Sunday afternoon.

Damage was also caused to the property in what was described as a terrifying aggravated burglary.

The woman received injuries which gardai have described as not life threatening.

Earlier this morning, gardai supported by the Armed Support Unit, conducted searches at two addresses in Newbridge, Co Kildare.

Two men aged in their late teens were arrested and a vehicle and a number of other items were seized for technical examination.

“The two lads who were arrested are known to gardai for offending,” a source told The Star.

In a statement An Garda Siochana said: “Gardai in Naas have arrested two men as part of an investigation into an aggravated burglary in Clane, Co Kildare on Sunday, December 18.

“On Friday, December 23 as part of Operation Thor, gardai from Clane and the Naas District Detective Unit conducted searches at two addresses in Newbridge, Co Kildare.”

Assistance was provided by the Eastern Region Armed Support Unit.

“Two males, aged in their late teens, were arrested during the course of the searches.

Both males are this evening being detained in Naas Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
