Two men in court in Lanarkshire after 'significant' drugs recovery

Two men have appeared in private at court in connection with a drugs haul worth around £289,000.

It came after cops in Wishaw seized drugs after stopping a car on Main Street, Overtown, on Wednesday, February 23.

That saw them seize £63,000 of cash before searching a property on Greenlaw Avenue, Wishaw, where they seized around 1kg of cocaine, 22kg of herbal cannabis and 26,200 diazepam tablets.

Two men, aged 35 and 27, were arrested and charged and appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday.

Sergeant John Watson told Lanarkshire Live: “This was significant recovery and as a result, thousands of pounds worth of drugs are off the streets.

“I want to reassure the public that Police Scotland will continue to use every tool and tactic at our disposal to disrupt the activities of those involved in serious organised crime.

“Serious organised crime and drugs misuse brings nothing but misery to our local communities.

“We urge the public to report any information or concerns they have about controlled drugs in their area, to contact police.”

Anyone with information in relation to drugs, or any crime, is asked to call Police Scotland on 101.

Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where you can give your information anonymously.
