Two men were charged with firearms offences after a search warrant activity at two business premises in Mitchell on Friday, September 27.
Australian Border Force officials intercepted items believed to be used in the manufacture of firearms in September this year. The items were directed to addresses in the ACT. Information gathered as part of the interception was referred to ACT Policing, where an investigation was started by Gungahlin officers.
During the searches in Mitchell, police found items used in creating firearms including firearm bolts, barrels, metal cutout pieces, a barrel "reaming" tool and a gel blaster pistol.
Both men charged had previously had firearms confiscated and firearms licences cancelled.
A 47-year-old Mitchell man previously had his firearms licence cancelled due to a family violence assault conviction and was subsequently charged with three counts of unauthorised possession of three to nine firearms and one count of unauthorised manufacture of firearms.
A 43-year-old Macgregor man, who previously had his firearms licence cancelled due to firearms offences, was charged with the unauthorised manufacture of firearms.
Both men are scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday.
