Two men arrested over Aberdeen crash after death of 'one in a million' grandad

Two men have been arrested after a crash in Aberdeen claimed the life of a grandad.

The pair, aged  21 and 25, have been cuffed following the incident, which took place at the junction of Hilton Drive and Hilton Avenue, around 6.25pm on Thursday December 30.

It is said to have involved a silver Volkswagen Golf and a white Dacia Sandero.

The 43-year-old male driver of the Dacia Sandero - Gabriel Lungu, from Romania - was rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

He sadly could not be saved and died as a result of his injuries.

We previously told how his family described him as "one in a million" as well as being "selfless" and "caring".

They said: “Gabriel Lungu, a much loved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, was taken from us.

"Gabriel was truly one in a million. The most selfless, caring, and kind man you could ever wish to know.

“There was nothing you could ask of him that was too much - he would help in any way he could, no matter what.

"Regardless of any problems of his own that he might have had, he did his best to ensure everyone around him was happy and cared for.

“His death has left a hole in our family that can never be filled and he will be missed every day.”

Police today confirmed the two men were arrested in connection with road traffic offences following the crash.

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Two men, aged 21 and 25, have been arrested in connection with road traffic offences following a fatal road crash in Aberdeen.

"The incident happened around 6.25pm on Thursday, 30 December, 2021, at the junction of Hilton Drive and Hilton Avenue.
