Two men caught with a large knife have been arrested following a disturbance in Oldham.
Two student police officers attended Market Square in Royton at around 1am this morning (May 1) after being called to reports of a disturbance.
Enquiries revealed that two men were in possession of a large knife before the two officers, still in their student officer status, chased them to a dark back alleyway, Greater Manchester Police said.

As they requested assistance over their radios, the two men discarded the weapon and the officers were able to quickly intervene.
The two men, aged 31 and 34, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon and remain in custody for questioning.
Chief Inspector Amy Warden of GMP’s Oldham district said: “The prompt, courageous and well thought out actions of these officers meant that no one was injured.
“This action speaks volumes for the bravery and dedication our officers show on a daily basis to serve and protect the public – something which we will always continue to do."
