Two men arrested after 100mph car chase with police as public put 'at risk'

Two men have been arrested after a high-speed car chase with police. A 'suspicious' Volkswagen was spotted by officers on patrol and a 100mph chase ensued on the busy M60 near Manchester.

As the high-velocity chase accelerated, the undercover police car was targeted with bricks, catalytic converters and a trolley jack that were thrown from the car in question, with members of the public put at 'risk', reports the Manchester Evening News.

Officers were able to catch two of the vehicle's occupants as they fled the scene when the car came to a stop and the pair were detained after being chased by police on Wednesday evening after 11.50pm.

The two men, aged 26 and 30, were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop. Both are in custody for questioning.

Inspector Jon Shilvock, of Greater Manchester Police’s Roads Policing Unit, said: "It was a high-risk job, the impact of the incident put members of the public at risk and the actions of the officers, with the support of National Police Air Service, allowed us to bring the pursuit to a safe conclusion.

"These kind of incidents have a massive impact on the people of Greater Manchester through personal cost, inconvenience, and also by the methods in which they carry out their activities which puts lives at risk.

"Through courage and sound decision making, the officers have taken two dangerous individuals off the streets of Greater Manchester, which will no doubt have a positive impact on the public and our organisation."
