Two Manchester United players return to training ahead of Chelsea trip

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire is back in training ahead of the Reds' visit to Stamford Bridge for their Premier League clash with Chelsea.

Erik ten Hag's side will be looking to make it back-to-back Premier League wins on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to West London to take on Graham Potter's side. United put in a superb mid-week performance in front of their own fans at Old Trafford to beat Tottenham 2-0.

Goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes claimed all three points for the Reds, rounding off a commanding display against Antonio Conte's side. United became only the second team to beat the North London club this season, alongside league leaders Arsenal, and they will now be hoping for yet more success against opposition from the capital.

The result on Wednesday night saw United keep their third successive clean sheet in all competitions and their fourth in the Premier League this season. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane's growing partnership has been a major contributing factor behind the club's recent defensive stability, with the duo forming a formidable team in central defence.

Maguire, who has been absent with a hamstring injury, has not featured for United since coming on in the 90th minute against FC Sheriff in the Europa League on September 15. The England international has now provided fans with an update on his recovery ahead of the match against Chelsea this weekend.

The 29-year-old took to social media to post a picture of himself back in training, with the caption: "The hard work continues #mufc #recovery."

Although the former Leicester City man is unlikely to usurp either of Martinez or Varane in Ten Hag's starting XI, his return to training will be a welcome boost for the club. United have seven fixtures between now and the World Cup break on November 13, as the squad depth of every Premier League side is set to be tested to its limit.

Full-back Brandon Williams is also back in training.
