Two Manchester restaurants in the running to be named 'best takeaway in Britain'

Just Eat has announced the finalists in the regional heats of its best takeaway competition. Five restaurants in the North West are in the running to be crowned Best Takeaway including two in Manchester.

Formerly know as the British Takeaway Awards, and now in its seventh year, the newly named accolade champions Britain's favourite food spots and the people who make them a success. Panc Foods and Biskits in Manchester have been nominated in the North West category alongside Cafe at the End of the Universe in Warrington, Blackdoor Bistro & Bar in Liverpool and Vegan House Foods in Chester.

Victoria Gold, UK & IE Marketing Director, said: “This year, we’re excited to be inviting more restaurants to get involved in our highly coveted Just Eat Restaurant Awards, so that food lovers across the country can support their favourites. While the name has changed and we’ve refreshed our look to a joyful orange, our mission remains the same. We’re still here to recognise the hardworking individuals behind Britain’s best food spots and champion passion, dedication and above all, unforgettable food.”

Panc Foods based in Manchester started life as a remote ghost kitchen selling plant-based food and desserts before taking a spot at Manchester Christmas Markets. Having impressed both vegans and non-vegans with their naturally-coloured buns, vegan burgers and sweet treats at at last year's markets, they recently took up a unit within the Arndale Market.

The desserts available at Panc comes under the new banner of Yum Yum and offers everything from milkshakes to desserts. The brand also happens to be Manchester's first vegan chimney cake bakery and offers up triple certified coffee, cinnamon rolls and soft serve vanilla ice cream.

Biskits based on Wilmslow Road in Withington started off as a dessert restaurant, but mindful of the challenges presented by the cost of living crisis diversified and introduced a savoury menu. Despite the challenges, changing the business proposition was the best way to keep his staff employed in difficult times.

Its menu spans a variety of grilled cheese options including Fried Chicken Grill as well as French toast, waffles and stacked pancakes and cookie dough. Biskits also offers a variety of sundaes, ice cream, tropical mocktails and luxury hot chocolates.

The winner of the regional round will progress in the competition in the hope of being crowned the best in Britain. With a total of 18 different award categories this year, there are even more awards up for grabs.

Alongside the Best Takeaway in Britain award, five brand new categories join the list of accolades including Best Newcomer, Best Vegan, Best Breakfast, Best Lunch and London’s Favourite Dish. All national and regional winners will be revealed at a glittering ceremony which takes place at the five-star hotel The Londoner in Leicester Square on 21 February 2023.
