Two Manchester hotels popular with celebs named among best in the UK

Two Manchester city centre hotels loved by famous faces have been named in a list of the "best of the best" in the entire UK.

Dakota Hotel near to Manchester Piccadilly, and the Stock Exchange Hotel on Norfolk Street both make the top 25 list in Tripadvisor's Traveller's Choice awards 2023. The ranking is based on hotels with the top 1% of customer reviews across the entire public review site.

Dakota features at number 6 in the list - ahead of even famous London luxury hotel Claridge's. Meanwhile Stock Exchange Hotel, which is owned by Manchester United legend Gary Neville, comes in at number 13 on the list.

Both hotels are known for offering luxurious stays in the city, and have welcomed a wealth of famous faces since both opened in 2019. Dakota has famously played host to the Spice Girls and film star Hugh Jackman, while Stock Exchange has been home for Ed Sheeran and Post Malone in recent months.

Dakota features as the only northern hotel in a top 10 dominated by luxury London hotels. The Tynedale hotel in Llandudno is the only Welsh hotel making the top 10.

Tripadvisor says that it awards Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best to hotels based on a "high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from our community over a 12-month period". It is only those rated in the top 1% that make the grade.

It adds that each winner has passed its "rigorous trust and safety standards". Bosses there say: "Fewer than 1% of Tripadvisor’s 8 million listings are awarded Best of the Best, signifying the highest level of excellence in hospitality".

In the awards list, Dakota is praised for its "ideal location" on Ducie Street, combining "style and impeccable service, with sophistication at its heart". It adds: "With a destination cocktail bar and brasserie-style grill, quality produce is showcased at its best in a stunning setting.

It also praises the hotel restaurant Dakota Grill and says its "bold, stylish bar provides timeless classics and modern creations, enjoyed on the outdoor terrace, in the Cigar Garden or in Dakota’s Champagne Room."

The venue is known for its luxury hotel rooms and suites, including Manchester's largest and most striking penthouse suite, the two-bedroom Grand Deluxe, with views across the city.

It has won a raft of awards since opening in the city in 2019, and previously won the Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice Award in 2021 too. The Stock Exchange Hotel, on Norfolk Street, opened in November 2019 and swiftly racked up the five star reviews on Tripadvisor.

The two are currently rated 1 and 2 for Manchester on the public reviews site.

Recent reviews for The Stock Exchange including hailing it "the best hotel in Manchester" and "a one of a kind hotel".

One wrote: "Beautiful hotel, great location. Staff excellent. It’s a bit pricey but it’s lovely to get a bit of luxury. Highly recommend a visit."

Another who left a five star review praised almost every detail. Although cheekily ended their review saying: "The only negative was we found out it was owned by Gary Neville and we are serious Liverpool supporters!"

Rooms are currently available for The Stock Exchange Hotel throughout June priced from £145 up to £537 depending on the date and grade of room on booking.com. Meanwhile a stay at Dakota Manchester in June is from £126 up to £723 depending on the night and room style.
