Two male pedestrians 'seriously injured' in car crash last night

Two male pedestrians are in hospital with "serious injuries" after they were involved in a car crash in north Dublin last night.

The Collins Avenue Extension is remains closed off between the Ballymun Road junction and the Shanard Road junction.

The two men, who are in their 30s, were taken to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital to be treated for "serious injuries". One of the men are understood to have sustained worse injuries.

The incident is not currently being treated as suspicion, Dublin Live understands.

A garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Gardaí are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision involving a car and two pedestrians that occurred at approximately 6:45pm on Saturday 24th December 2022 on Collins Avenue in Dublin 9.

"The two male pedestrians, both aged in their 30s, were taken to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital with serious injuries. The female driver of the car was uninjured.

"The road is currently closed in order for a technical examination of the scene to be conducted by Forensic Collision Investigators."

Local diversions are in place. Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

The spokesman added: "Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Collins Avenue area between 6:30pm and 7pm are asked to make this footage available to Garda."

Gardai remained at the scene this morning as local diversions are in place.
