Tragedy struck late Saturday near Covington, Georgia, as a single-engine plane crashed shortly after takeoff from a small airport, resulting in the loss of two lives. The incident involving a Rockwell Commander aircraft occurred around 11:40 p.m. at the Covington Municipal Airport, as reported by the Federal Aviation Administration.
According to authorities, there was a lack of communication from the aircraft following its departure. Subsequently, law enforcement officers discovered the wreckage of the plane and the two victims in a wooded area just north of the runway in Newton County, approximately 35 miles east of downtown Atlanta.
Efforts are currently underway to positively identify the individuals who lost their lives in the tragic crash. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is being led by both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
