Two injured as training aircraft crashes near village in Pune; second incident in four days

A pilot and his trainer were injured after a training aircraft crashed in Baramati in Pune district early on Sunday.

According to authorities, a Tecnam aircraft belonging to the Redbird Flight Training Academy crashed during a training session at Gojubavi village, 10 km from Baramati and around 100 km from Pune city, a little after 7.30 a.m. on Sunday while attempting to land.

The cause of the crash has been attributed to technical failure, according to sources. Both instructor and trainee, who suffered injuries, were safe and undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital, said Baramati police authorities, adding that further investigations were on.

The accident is a reprise of a similar incident that occurred on October 19, when another training aircraft belonging to the same aviation academy crashed near Kaftal village in Baramati. At the time, the pilot of the plane had similarly suffered injuries.
