Two infiltrators killed near LoC in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara

Two infiltrators were killed along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Kupwara on September 30.

A police spokesman said that based on an Intelligence input provided by the Kupwara police, a joint operation was carried out by the Army and the police in Kumkadi area of Machil sector.

“Two infiltrating terrorists have been killed so far. The operation is still in progress,” the police said.

Two AK rifles, four magazines, 90 rounds, a pistol and a pouch and Pakistani currency were recovered from the encounter site, the police said.

Officials said the anti-infiltration operation was launched where the joint team observed the movement of intruders. “They opened fire indiscriminately upon the joint team. The fire was retaliated, leading to the elimination of two heavily armed unidentified intruders,” officials said. Their identity and affiliation are being ascertained.

The neutralised intruders were found to be heavily armed, equipped with sophisticated weaponry, which indicates their malicious intent to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the Valley, officials said.

“However, due to the timely and effective response by the police and Army, their plans were foiled and a significant threat to peace and stability in the area was neutralised,” they said.
