Two homeless men in France purchased a winning lottery ticket using a stolen bank card then disappeared, but the victim is ready to share the pot if they confess.

Jean-David E. only recently discovered his backpack had been stolen earlier this month and with it, his wallet. After he called to cancel his bank card, Jean-David learned it had already been used at a nearby shop.

Upon visiting the shop, Jean-David learned two homeless men bought a winning scratch-off ticket worth nearly $500,000 euros ($523,000 U.S.) then ran out of the store.

"They were so totally happy that they forgot their cigarettes and their belongings and walked out like crazy people," Jean-David's lawyer told CTV News.

The victim said he will withdraw his police report if the men come forward, return his wallet and split their earnings with him since "no one would have won" without them, he told France-2, per CTV News.

Last week, Jean-David's lawyer launched a national appeal imploring the men to contact his office before it's too late to claim the money.

"You risk nothing... We will share with you," Jean-David's lawyer told CTV News. "And you would be able to change your lives."
